Traditional way is used in production of high quality white, rose and red wine, which has been served at royal courts, at hotels and restaurants in Europe and the world.

The wine is made from various grape sorts cultivated in three wine regions in Vojvodina.

 
Sremski Karlovci has been the reputable Serbian wine capital for several centuries. The wine has been exported to the Czech Republic, Poland, Switzerland, Moldavia and Belgium since the 15th century. Actually, this is the region of viticulture which is among the oldest in Europe. According to an old saying, ” climate is the destiny; vine is the mother and the soil the father of wine “ , authentic wine from this area has a particular sweet – sour taste, ruby or sometimes white colour and is called ” bermet “ .

” Bermet “ was exported to the USA 150 years ago. Large quantities were sent to the royal court in Vienna and there are some records of it on the wine list on the ” Titanic ” .

The legend has it that during the reign of Austria – Hungary Empire, there was a river port in Karlovci from which the wine was transported to Vienna. Maria Theresa tried the wine ” bermet “ and asked about its origin. When she was told that it was produced in the region from which males were constantly recruited and sent to war, the Empress granted the men in Fruška gora amnesty so that they could continue the wine production.
The subject of the legend was also the story that this wine was served at other European royal courts ( French, Czech, etc. ) in the 17th and 18th century. In case some permission was needed from the royal court in Vienna, then the wine was offered as bribe. There is some information that the most precious gift for the royal court in London received from Vienna was actually ” bermet “ .

The production of ” bermet “ is a slow and expensive process regarding the which is  a professional secret of its exclusive producers in Karipvci. There is no other place in the world where bermet is produced.

” Bermet “, a ” noble wine with herbs “ , is among rare wines that are drunk both as aperitif  ( prior to meals ) and digestive (with desserts, such as vanilice, salčići, orasnice ) .

Its complex scent and taste are immediately recognised by the distinctive taste of fruit – dried figs, orange rind, anis, carob, nutmeg, clove, vanilla and wormwood.

This manifestation celebrates the greatest Christian event — The Christmas in Sremski Karlovci.

It is organized on several locations in the town: in Karlovci’ s Grammar School, the Orthodox Cathedral, the Catholic Church, the Primary School, on the main town centre.

The basic concept of the manifestation a ” The Christmas Celebrations in Sremski Karlovci ” is based on nourishing the spiritual wealth, the cultural inheritance and the traditional values through the multimedia contents – the Christmas plays for children, the presentation of the religious choirs, the exhibitions of the children’ s literary works, the concerts, the selling exhibitions, etc. The content of the manifestation includes the masses and religious services in Karlovci’s churches.

KARLOVCI’ S GRAPE PICKING
The manifestation ” Karlovci’s Grape Picking” has emerged from the traditional and customary celebration which marked the beggining of the grape picking. This manifestation was reestablished in 1992 and, since than, it has been regularly organised every year during the last weekend of September of the first weekend in October.

The basic aim of the manifestation is nourishing of the cultural and spiritual tradition of the town, the improving of the tourism, and, above all, stimulation of all the wine producers to persevere with the wine production and thus continue the rich tradition of their ancestors.

The programme of the manifestation is consisted of the economic part, within which the selling exhibition of grapes, wines, authentic souvenirs is organised, and cultural- artistic part with exhibitions and rich entertaining programme ( concerts of prominent musicians, performances, parades of folk – dance troupe, etc.).

The programme mostly takes place in the centre of Sremski Karlovci, and approximately 100,000 guests visit this manifestation every year.

There are 21 beds arranged in three six – bedded rooms and one room with three beds. There is a bathroom on each floor with two showers.

The hostel has a beautiful summer garden, a comfortable and fully equipped, common kitchen, a living room, a baggage room, the safes. The reception is working all day long with flexible check – in and check – out system.

 
Additional facilities: washing and drying mashine, TV, DVD, WIFI, internet connection, The Youth Club, a multifunctional seminar hall with 35 – 50 seats, the bicycles for rent.

There are 120 beds ( 150 when the extra beds are included) arranged in 50 rooms ( double – bedded or three – bedded) and 8 apartments. The rooms are comfortable, air – conditioned, with bathroom, TV, phone and mini-bar. The apartments possess bedroom, bathroom, living room with small kitchen. The hotel has casino with poker machines and roulette, snooker hall, souvenir shop and a parking space for 200 vechiles.

There are two congress halls with the capacity of 30 and 80 seats and all the necessary equipment. A swimming pool is in preparation. There is an internet connection at the reception.

There are 50 seats in the restaurant.

During the summer, the restaurant has an attractive garden, placed near the fountain ” The Four Lions” , with 40 seats.

The restaurant in old national style with 90 sitting places lies open for our guests. Summer garden in two levels with 80 and 400 places, with adorable sight on river Danube, is unique place for rest and pleasure while enjoying in the finest wines of the region.

The restaurant „ Dunav “ is part of tourist complex which beside restaurant, includes hotel, open pool, casino, billiards room, souvenir shop, quay and parking lot for 200 vehicles.

Dositej Obradović spent three years in this monastery.

In the monastery church, the holy relics of St Teodor Tiron ( 4th century ) are kept, and these ate the oldest and the most complete relics that the Serbian Orthodox Church has an Honour to keep.

The Catholic Church — dedicated to the Holy Trinity from 1768

The Theological School — the oldest Serbian theological school from 1794.

The Town Hall— the monumental, two-storied building from the beginning of the 19th century.

The Upper Church — dedicated to the Entrance of the Mother of God in the Temple from 1746.

The Lower Church – dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul, the apostles, from 1719.

Stefaneum – the boarding school built on the initiative of the patriarch Georgije Branković in 1904.

The Archive of SANU – the department of the Archive of the Serbian academy for Science and Art,situated in the building of the theological school.
