Dimitrovgrad

Dimitrovgrad (formerly Caribrod) is a border town in the far southeast of Serbia, on the motorway and railway line Belgrade–Sofia–Istanbul — the shortest overland link between Europe and the Middle East. A starting point for Stara Planina, Poganovo Monastery and the Jerma River canyon.

Dimitrovgrad (known as Caribrod until 1950) lies in the far southeast of Serbia, on the motorway and railway line Belgrade–Niš–Sofia — the shortest overland link between Europe and the Middle East. It has regular bus connections to Pirot, Niš, Belgrade and Sofia. The nearest airports are in Niš (around 100 km) and Sofia (around 60 km).

The town has around 7,000 inhabitants and a well-developed accommodation infrastructure: two hotels, a motel and roughly 1,000 restaurant seats. Thanks to its strategic location, Dimitrovgrad has considerable potential for transit tourism.

The municipality's main tourism assets are Stara Planina mountain, Petrlašká Cave, the Smilovska Lakes, the Jerma River canyon, Poganovo Monastery and rural tourism amid unspoiled nature.
